Shawnee resident William Eugene Malone, 95, passed away on Sunday, November 24, at his home.
William was born on October 7, 1924 in Jackson, Tennessee to Eugene and Thelma (Hawk) Malone. William graduated high school at Brown’s High School in rural Jackson Tennessee. He continued his education receiving his bachelor’s degree at Oklahoma A & M, then his master’s degree at Columbia University. William proudly served the United States Marine Corp in the South Pacific during World War II. On June 11, 1948, he married Drexel Loy Wint at University Baptist Church in Shawnee. William retired from the Shawnee School system, where he spent many years teaching jr. high and high school art. He was a member of the Oklahoma Educators Association, the National Educators Association, and the Oklahoma Retired Teachers Association. William shared a great deal of his time teaching Sunday School at the Shawnee Care Center. He was a member of University Baptist Church, where he was faithful for over 60 years.
William was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters and two brothers, Peggy, Bobby, Sam, and Betty.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Debbie Malone, and Brooks and Terri Malone; grandchildren, Andrea Nesbitt, William Tucker Malone, and William Parker Malone; great-grandchildren, Collin, Hope and Parker Nesbitt, and William Briggs Malone; brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Jan Malone; and many nieces and nephews.
The Malone family will be at Walker Funeral Service on Friday, November 29, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM for visitation. Services will be Saturday, November 30, at 10:00 AM at University Baptist Church in Shawnee, with Pastor Glen Pence officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee. Services are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.
